CALL FOR CENTRAL CONVENTION HALL
EVENING STANDARD WEST END FINAL 1 – 20TH OCTOBER 2005
A huge convention centre costing up to £300 million should be built in the centre of London, a major report said today.
A commission set up Mayor Ken Livingstone rejected outlying sites such as Docklands or Stratford as less attractive to high-spending convention delegates from abroad, and said a 5,000 capacity centre could boost the economy by £400 million a year. Westminster’s QE2 centre, which holds fewer than 1,000 people in its biggest room, is London’s largest.
