Is there no stopping Gerry Acher, bean-counter extraordinaire? Acher has been busy snapping up positions since stepping down last year as London senior partner of KPMG, the accountancy firm. First he agrees to chair a commission, set up by Ken Livingstone, looking at the case for a new international convention centre for London. Then he steps in as acting chairman of Camelot, the lottery operator, filling the gap left by Michael Grade’s departure. He was appointed CBE in 1999 for his charitable work with disabled people. How long before he wins that elusive knighthood?
