(UK) The members of the London Mayoral Commission have been named. Set up to consider the building of a London convention centre, the body is to be led by Gerry Acher who is joined by six others who all have wide experience of the conference industry both at home and abroad. The commissioners are Vanessa Cotton, until recently, managing director of The Event Organisation Company; Martin George, British Airways director of marketing and commercial development; Gary Grimmer, former CEO of Melbourne Convention and Visitors’ Bureau; Katie Kopec, European director strategic consulting of Jones Lang LaSalle; Larry Oltmanns, director of architects Skidmore, Owings and Merrill; Roger Tondeur, CEO of MCI Group. Acher thinks that the quality of the commissioners reflects the importance of their task. “These appointments are great news for London, we secured some of the brightest international talents in areas of strategic importance to this project including business travel, venue and events management, property and architecture,” he says. As the commission’s work progresses, more specialist commissioners will join the team.
