London Convention Debate
Event, 01 April 2004
The London Development Agency (LDA) has set up a mayoral Commission to look at
the feasibility of building an international convention centre (ICC) in the
capital.
The independent body, chaired by London First vice-chairman Gerry Acher, is
expected to reach a decision early next year. It will also look at the wider
business tourism market in the capital and consider ways in which it can be
developed.
The commission will comprise up to six members with expertise in property, venue
management and business tourism. The team will be in place later this month and
the commission will meet every six to eight weeks.
A spokesperson for the London ICC Mayoral Commission said: “We have the backing
of the Mayor, LDA and business tourism industry but we still need to move
quickly.”
