London conference centre under review
Conference & Incentive Travel, 01 March 2004
London has taken a step towards creating a world-class, purpose-built convention
centre with the setting up of a mayoral commission to examine the desirability
and feasibility of the project.
Vice-chairman os London First and treasurer for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee
Weekend Trust Gerry Acher has been appointed by the London Developent agency to
chair the commission.
Acher is forming a team that will report within a year. He sounded out the
industry at last month’s International Confex.
The appointment follows the London Leadership Forum on Business Tourism last
year, at which 100 industry players identified an international convention
centre as one of the five key issues the capital had to tackle.
Acher aid that if the case for a centre were made, he would make recommendations
on location, funds and timing
